Day 252/365: The Florida Trip Socks in Hawaii

Remember the Florida Trip socks?  I said I was knitting them for my mom, but actually I was knitting them as a surprise gift for a dear friend whom I’ve known for over twenty-five years.  Sometimes she reads this blog, and I didn’t want to take the chance that she’d learn what I was making for her birthday gift.

Anyway, I mailed them to her in Hawaii, and she sent me a photo to let me know that they’d arrived and fit perfectly.  She has small feet like my mom, and I used a cardboard template of my mom’s footprint to figure out the fit.  These were the first pair of socks that I knit with the fish lips kiss heel.  The fact that the socks fit with no bagging around the ankles fully confirms my decision to throw away the gusset heel pattern and stick with short row heels from now on.

Day 251/365: Back to the Grind

Today was such a busy one at work that I pretty much sat at my desk all day and didn’t leave the building until ten hours later, when it was time to pack it up and shut down the computer.

Happily, though, I got home to find that this had arrived.  I definitely have plans to use up stash yarn in the future.

Day 250/365: Labor Day

For the first time in weeks, today I didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything.  It felt sort of strange, because I have gotten so used to having to complete appointments and run errands on my regular day off.  I didn’t do much of anything except eat, knit, listen to the newest Judy Blume novel on audiotape, nap, and knit some more.

Hope you had an easy and restful Labor Day, as well!

Day 246/365: How My Day At Work Ended

9.3.2015

I had a long day at work, and I was glad to be leaving. Two correctional officers were talking to each other as I walked into the Gate House from the sallyport. I handed my employee ID to the female correctional officer and she glanced at it to make sure that the ID was valid and that I wasn’t an inmate trying to escape. She gave a perfunctory nod and resumed her conversation with the male correctional officer. “She’d just gotten a breast augmentation and came in to work without a bra.”

If I weren’t already headed out the door, I would have lingered to hear the rest of that story.

Day 245/365: New Sock

Several months ago, I told my older brother that I would knit a pair of socks for him.  I meant well, but life and work and other projects came along, and I just never got around to casting on his socks.  Last night it occurred to me that his birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks.  Whoops!  So I got started on this sock.

Day 244/365: The Florida Trip Socks, Completed

Holy cow, it’s the first of September already!  Where did the summer go?

I finished knitting this pair of socks for my mom.  It’s the first time I tried the fish lips kiss heel.  Compared to the gusset heel pattern that I’d been using, I think this particular heel will fit the foot a lot better.  I’ll have to knit a pair for myself to know for sure.

Day 243/365: The Florida Trip Sock #2, Almost Done

I did a lot of driving today.  I drove to the allergist’s office in Oxnard for my immunotherapy shot.  I drove to a number of places in Ventura for errands.  I drove 150 miles back to Morro Bay.  I drove several more additional miles to Cayucos and around Morro Bay for more errands.  I am tired of being in the car.  Luckily, I have this sock to finish and help me unwind.
