Imagine that you are at your desk, trying to write a blog post on the laptop. As you sit there typing, you start to get this weird feeling that something is not quite right. Like maybe something is looking at you. You glance up at the usual display of cute Japanese toys arrayed on the hutch– and you make eye contact with a creepy little grim reaper that seems to have materialized out of nowhere. Startled, you nearly jump out of your skin. You try to slow your heart down by taking some deep breaths, and in the process of recovering from the fright, you remember, Oh, that’s right. Your older brother was just here for a visit and, typical guy, this is his idea of a nice little surprise.

Day 259/365: Brother’s Birthday Socks, Delivered
Day 258/365: Birthday Gifts
My older brother is visiting from out of town. I gave him a spare key to the house and went off to work this morning. When I got back home ten and a half hours later, I discovered that he’d gone grocery shopping and was making dinner. He’d also purchased a card, balloon, and assorted small gifts to wish me a happy belated birthday. Even though tomorrow is his own birthday.
Our mom would be so proud.
I am very glad that I finished knitting his birthday socks yesterday.
