Day 59/365: Free Motion Quilting Class

My unfinished sampler of free motion quilting designs.

I spent most of today in a free motion quilting class for beginners.  We learned how to prep our sewing machines for free motion quilting, and then our first assignment was to write our names.  I wrote my first name over and over and over, the best I could in sewing machine cursive.  It bugged me a little that I couldn’t dot the i in my name, though.

The rest of the day was spent practicing different designs.  I decided that I liked the pebble design the best, mainly because it was the easiest one for me to do.  I’ll have to practice more in order to get better at this free motion quilting thing.  In the meantime, here’s what I completed in class today.

I thought about throwing it away because it was only really a practice piece made out of fat quarters, but then that would be a waste of materials.  So now I have to get creative and figure out what I’m going to do with it.
