Day 241/365: The Florida Trip Sock #2 Gets Its Heel

Today I finally sat down with the second sock and carefully followed the fish lips kiss heel instructions that Aunt Georgia emailed me.  Shortly after I finished the heel and had worked my way to knitting in the round again, it was time to pack up so that Sean and I could make the drive back down to Ventura.  This time I drove, so this is how far I’ve gotten on the sock.  Tomorrow morning we are getting up early to run 8 miles for half marathon training, and then I’ll have the rest of the day to continue this sock.

Day 235/365: The Last Day Before The Start of the Fall Semester

Sean officially starts teaching classes again tomorrow, so today was our last day of the 2015 Summer Party.  We got up early, ate breakfast at The Eating Room in downtown Redlands, checked out of our hotel, and then drove on to Carson to attend a sold-out L.A. Galaxy game against New York City FC.

Look at that crowd.

The Galaxy won 5-1, and afterwards we went to Marukai Market, where we had lunch and did some grocery shopping before getting back on the road to Ventura.  Tomorrow I’ll get back in the car to head north and drive 150 miles more to Morro Bay, and if I’m not too tired, maybe I’ll get started on knitting the heel for that second sock.

Day 234/365: Second Sock, Pre-Fish Lips Kiss Heel

This morning we woke up in Ventura at 5:30 AM to run 11 miles.  This evening we are going to bed in a hotel room in Redlands, having just spent a few lovely hours visiting with old friends.  Tomorrow we are heading to L.A. to see the Galaxy play New York City FC.

I knit a few more rounds on the sock while Sean drove us to Redlands.  I’m at the point in the sock where I could start the fish lips kiss heel, but I decided to wait until I was in my own living room and not in a moving vehicle to undertake that process.

Day 233/365: TGIF Again

Today I worked ten hours, went home to the Morro Bay house, packed up my computer and weekend bag, and got back in the car to drive the 150 miles (two and a half hours) back down to the Ventura homestead, where I am now typing this blog entry.  Tomorrow Sean and I have to get up early to run 11 miles for our half marathon training, and then we are going to get in the car and drive another 150 miles to Redlands to visit some old friends.  I didn’t make any further progress on the sock, so tonight I present to you the image of a beautiful sunset view from our newly painted deck and newly painted deck chairs in Morro Bay.

Day 231/365: Painting Completed

A couple weeks ago, Sean installed our new front door.  It needed to be painted, and the hardware needed to be changed.  Sean painted six different color swatches for me to look at.  I agonized over which was the right color for our front door, but I finally settled on one.

This was the old door.

The painter finished painting our house including the back deck and the front door two days ago.  We’d put off buying a door handle and lock for the new door until today, when the particular finish and style that I wanted was back in stock.  This afternoon Sean installed the hardware, and now the front entrance to our home is complete.

This is the first time in our lives that we’ve lived in our own house, not a rental, and one that we’ve customized to our personal taste.  We’re pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Day 228/365: 4th Day in Florida, Last Day of The Trip

Hard to believe, but it was just this morning that Sean and I were waking up at the Hilton on Cocoa Beach and going out for breakfast at Bagel World in Cape Canaveral.  Now it’s almost midnight, and we’re back in Ventura on the opposite coast, having just gotten home from LAX.

This afternoon, Aunt Georgia taught me how to knit the fish lips kiss heel.  I wanted to take a photo for the blog and needed some sort of background for the sock.  Then I spotted the antique spinning wheel in front of the fireplace.

Perfect way to display a sock.

At the gate and on the plane, I knit a few more rounds of ribbing for the cuff.  It’s ready to be bound off, but that will have to wait for another day because now it’s time for bed.

Day 227/365: 3rd Day of Florida

Today was another activity-filled day of catching up with family and friends.  I did find some time this afternoon to add a few more inches to my sock.  Tomorrow I hope to get the heel done.

This was the view out the hotel window while I sat comfortably in air-conditioning and knitted.  Believe me, it felt a lot more pleasant indoors than it did outdoors that time of the day.

Day 225/365: 1st Day of Florida

It’s been a long day of traveling, but we are finally here.  I started knitting a sock at the airport this morning (we were at the gate by 6 AM).  I managed to knit a few inches of the foot during the flight and meant to take a photo, but forgot.  I’ll try to remember to do that tomorrow.  In the meantime, it’s time for bed.

Day 224/365: My Friday Before Florida

I just got home from work and wanted to make sure I wrote today’s blog entry before we leave Morro Bay for Ventura.  I still have to pack, and we’ve got a lot of traveling ahead of us.  Tomorrow morning we have to be on the road by 4 AM to give us enough time to make our 7 AM flight out of LAX to Orlando.  I still have to decide what knitting project I’m going to take with me.  And whether the coloring book and pencils should come along, too.
